Starfield was not given a PS5 release date when it was announced. Its platform availability remained unclear during those early stages, but many of us assumed it would also make its way to Sony's consoles.
Starfield PlayStation 5 Release Date
The Elder Scrolls and other titles in Bethesda's catalog are, after all, multi-platform releases, so it only made sense for a new and highly anticipated IP to follow suit.
Things got complicated for Starfield as far as a PS5 release date is concerned when Microsoft acquired Bethesda's parent company, Zenimax Media, bringing all of the publisher's games under its umbrella.
- Starfield PlayStation 5 release date: Unknown, confirmed Xbox console exclusive at launch
After a set of relatively confusing tweets from different higher-ups across Xbox and Microsoft, the company would go on to officially confirm that Starfield would, indeed, be an Xbox exclusive and not make its way to Sony's console.
Furthermore, Phil Spencer later noted that Bethesda titles will be analyzed on a "case-by-case basis" when determining whether they will be Xbox exclusives or not.
Although stances on matters such as this can change in the long run, one thing is clear: Starfield is not getting a PS5 release date at the same time as it arrives on other platforms.
Whether or not Microsoft will drop the RPG's Xbox console exclusivity after some time has passed remains to be seen. There are, unsurprisingly, no signs of this happening any time soon right now.
Should anything change on this front, we'll be sure to update this article. In other Starfield news, the RPG includes more than 150,000 lines of dialogue.
